It all started with a game called Experimental Penguins. This game is still playable at penguinchat.com. Experimental Penguins was very dull. All you really could do was talk to your friends. If penguins were doing bad things, you couldn’t report them. So, the Club Penguin team shut this game down. Then, they opened Penguin Chat, which was the exact same thing. They just changed the name, so no one knew that it was Experimental Penguins. Next, came a game called Penguin Chat 3, which was playable at rocketsnail.com. It was nothing like the Club Penguin we have today. The only place you could go was the Town and all it’s buildings (so you think.) The Town, like now, had nothing to do in it. It was exactly the same except for some extra tables for the Coffee Shop. The Coffee Shop was really boring. There was no Book Room or Bean Counter. All you could do is talk to friends and pretend you were drinking coffee. The Night Club was pretty different then what it is now. The Penguin Band always played where the DJ Table is now. There was no Green Puffle on the speaker (mostly because there were no Puffles in Penguin Chat 3.) There was no upstairs, and the way to get in to the Boiler Room was located at the wire of the left speaker. Down there was where most Ninja Meetings were held! (because this was a hard place to find)Yes, there were Ninjas in Penguin Chat 3. What you had to do is at the penguin color screen (you didn’t have a player card, so you didn’t get to buy things such as colors, so you just go to a page to change colors) and where it said “Pick Your Penguin” you click the “n” and a Ninja will be a choice. Being a Ninja was awesome, you where a all black penguin, with a mask and belt, and a sword slung across your back.
If you danced while being a Ninja, you turned invisible! Now, back to the Town. If you went to the Gift Shop it would take you to a page on Rocketsnail where you could buy real items. Now, your probably thinking, well that’s kinda boring there’s only like 2 fun rooms. Well, the Club Penguin Team loves secrets, right? So if you went to the left of the Town (like how to get to the Dock) you would go to a room of nothing but snow! This room was just basically for chatting with friends. If you kept on going left you would go to a place with a bunch of penguins in Snowcats! Now, to drive a Snowcat you needed to go left again. In this room is a bunch of penguins drilling with hard hats on. If you clicked the crane’s crane in that room your penguin would be wearing a construction hat too! Now you could either stay here and drill, or go back right and you’d be driving a Snowcat! Now, if you go left again you would arrive back at the Town. Now, that’s what you could do in Penguin Chat 3. Now, if you were on Penguin Chat 3, you might see some snails with rockets on them! These were beta testers of Penguin Chat 3.
Penguin Chat 3 went unchangeable like that for a long time. But, right at the beginning of one summer Penguin Chat 3 closed! Rsnail (a mod) said that the team was making something called Club Penguin, and they wanted people to go to Club Penguin instead of Penguin Chat 3, so they closed it. Unfortunately, if you went to clubpenguin.com it would show the logo and say “Under Construction.” So, it left me with nothing to do, but play the games on rocketsnail.com over and over again, while checking the blog all summer. But, one happy day I read the blog and it said, “Club Penguin is ready to be played!” That day rocketsnail.com was closed, and I went to the new site, made a account and started playing! It wasn’t really officially launched it was beta testing days. Beta testing days were when you just played and reported bugs. The Club Penguin blog gave information about new updates every 2 to 3 days, telling you what was accomplished and what we should try and do to see if it works. Then, after awhile of doing this the blog said that there was going to be a beta test party! It was to see if we all crowded a server and it stayed up. The day finally came for the party and everyone went on the same server. Instead, of the usual 50-100 penguins playing the was more than 150! This was the first party in Club Penguin and it was where you got the free beta tester hat. The server never crashed. The party ended and us betas went back to the regular routine. Finally, after awhile the official launch to public of Club Penguin came! It was so cool since there was a party and new rooms and new games were added. That’s how Club Penguin started.
